The idea for the Stanford Design School came out of a "manifesto" written on a napkin at a Peet's coffee. The handwriting belongs to George Kembel, who was the Executive Director of the Institute.
What's cool about the school is that school teaches design methology as a way of thinking. Innovation is a constant process, not a one-time-thing that you do once in a while or a capability possesed by only the so-called "creative" people.
As written in the Stanford Hasso Platner, Institute of Design, "We want the d.school to be a place for Stanford students and faculty in engineering, medicine, business, the humanities, and education to learn design thinking and work together to solve big problems in a human centered way."
